State Representative Mike Unes (R-East Peoria) was at Limestone Community High School this afternoon, visiting with students and faculty as they celebrate the commencement of their annual fundraiser for Easter Seals of Central Illinois.
For the past 43 years, students have raised a running total of $947,000 for the organization, and have hopes of taking that amount over the $1 million mark this year. Rep Unes is a 1992 graduate of LCHS, and was invited to speak and give guidance to the current Student Council as one of the school’s distinguished alumni. As part of his visit, Rep Unes also presented the students with a $2,500 donation to help kick-off their campaign.
“As a former student of LCHS, I could not be more proud of all of the students both past and present who have taken on this initiative to support one of our area’s most critical human service organizations. From what I have witnessed today with the passion, dedication, and organization of the students, I have no doubt they will achieve their goal with a record-breaking year,” said State Rep Mike Unes.
Easter Seal’s CEO Steve Thompson added: “This is a very important fundraiser for us, and we are grateful for the enthusiasm that Rep Unes has shown in supporting Easter Seals both today and also throughout his tenure in the legislature. We appreciate him for his tireless dedication to the families we serve, and for the positive impact he continues to make for the entire human services community. Mike Unes exemplifies the strong leadership we so often see from Limestone alum, especially in his exceptional commitment to public and community service.”
This year’s fundraiser will culminate with an all-school pep rally on February 26th.
Contributions to the campaign can be made out to Easter Seals and sent to the high school.
