Pekin, IL…In recognition of his tireless work ethic and knowledge in a wide range of areas, State Representative Mike Unes (R-East Peoria) has been asked to serve on eight committees and – has further been tasked with leading his caucus as Minority Spokesperson on an important House transportation committee. Unes was appointed Minority Spokesperson of the Transportation: Vehicles & Safety Committee on Friday.
“Understanding that there will be an enormous work load, I couldn’t be more excited and proud to have the honor to work on issues of great importance to our region,” Unes said. As for his role as Minority Spokesperson, Unes has been a strong leader on the transportation committee since being sworn-in in 2011 and was asked to lead his caucus effort’s on the committee after playing such a key role in helping to pass landmark legislation, including increasing the interstate speed limit to 70 miles per hour.
Matt Wells, associate director of the Mid-West Truckers Association, heralded Unes’ selection, saying, “Representative Unes has been a consistent leader on this committee and because of the respect he has earned from people from all walks of life, he has shown a great ability to negotiate and help important legislation pass for the betterment of Illinois.”
Unes was also appointed to the Special committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Insurance, International Trade/Commerce, Tourism/Conventions, Financial Institutions, and both the Human Services and the Human Services Appropriations Committees.
The tremendous work load that Unes has been asked to juggle does not surprise those that have worked with him through the years and witnessed his passion to make a difference, “Mike’s tireless advocacy pays dividends for not only those he serves in his district, but for all Illinoisans. In a short amount of time, he has not only become one of the most likeable and passionate legislators in the General Assembly, but he also has a strong, positive reputation of being knowledgeable and effective among all of the Illinois Congressional delegation that he has worked with.
